Team Updates November 2019

Gents 1:

As they became champion last season, gents 1 now finally plays in promotion class. With the introduction of some new players such as Robert, Laurens and Koen they have started the new season quite good. Koen was warmly welcomed by waho and became trainer of Gents 2. Laurens was also warmly welcomed. Gents 1 is doing surprisingly well in the promotion class and is at the second place as we speak. Besides all the fun there is still some time to play good volleyball, something the current captain can learn from as he was even too busy to write this small text.

Gents 2:

Once upon a time there was a team. A team of 13 enthusiastic guys and their two coaches. You could say they’re quite a rowdy bunch. They hate to lose more than anything. One day they found themselves having lost a match 3-1 in Barneveld, but that was not the only thing they lost. Something more was lost in Barneveld. This team couldn’t believe they lost the ballbag. They had to make a choice between 153 Weihenstephaners or new balls. Now they have Shaniqua, Jacques and four other beautiful balls, but the whereabouts of the missing balls are an everlasting mystery. The pain of losing our balls had us lose two more matches with 3-1 and one with 3-2. Luckily the lovely coaches could keep the pain manageable and they also won matches with 4-0 and 3-1. They are now in 7th place with a lot of possibilities to rise through ranks.

Gents 3:

Gents 3 was too occupied and they were unable to give us a 5-sentence update on their progress so far. And this is completely understandable, as they have 2 Norwegian exchange students in their team, who are too busy biking up and down the mountain, and they have Mart (who is in this committee) but he still has to recover from the amazing Lustrum. And of course all the other 10 teammates also were too busy. Anyhow, this team is doing great! They are currently 2nd in the ranks and who knows, maybe they’ll be able to forget their busy schedules and work together to get to that first place.

Gents 4:

A little update from gents 4. After having lost a  24-19 lead in a set on the 9th of November. We came back stronger the following match and took our first points and win of the season against invicta 3-1. We are looking to take this form with us in our next met against Waho G3 and show them how much we have improved.

Ladies 1:

It’s a growing line but we already evolved as team from little  sucker to SUCKA!! #we gaan Europa in!! But we do have a lot of fun and already went on a amazing team weekend.

Ladies 2:

We’re already halfway through November right now, but in the first week of September, when Ladies 2 had just been formed, we sat together and determined our goals for this season. Our number one goal: to be in the top 5. We’ve been playing together for 11 weeks now, and, we’ve already accomplished this one goal! Even though we didn’t have the greatest start… Before the official season even started, Renee managed to get her ankle injured during the Introduction Tournament. Then a few weeks later we had to cope with the loss of Veronica and Nella, because the left us for much sunnier countries (Ivory Coast and Belgium). But, the show must go on and in typical Ladies 2 style, we lost some matches from our ‘weaker opponents’ and won from our ‘strongest opponents’. We still have to face one of our strongest opponents, Nuovo DS1. We absolutely cannot lose this match, because old WaHo-members Laura and Regina are now playing for this team. Of course we would all like to see WaHo DS 2 win. So, be there December 7th (in Doorwerth) and/or March 27th (Bongerd) to cheer for us! This way we can accomplish are final goal, which is to beat Laura and Regina and stay in the top 5, or even better, go for top 3 in the final ranking of this season!

Ladies 3:

Starting with two matches lost, we are now back in our winning mode. We won the last 4 matches, so let’s keep this spirit up! We are now in the 6th place, but looking at the ranks, a lot of opportunities are open to reach the top 3, which was our goal. Becoming champions this year is definitely not out of sight. It would be nice to beat ladies 2 next year in the first class :P. Furthermore, our team is not sitting still, not mentioning playing volleyball, even if this may be debatable according to others. The whole team is well presented at the lustrum activities. Some other sad news is that Gerbrich will leave to Uruguay in two weeks, which upsets us greatly. On the contrary, Hoogstra can’t be without the team and changed her plans by staying our gekke geitsj. Amandine is learning a lot of weird Dutch words from us. Joy is still our Kaptein Kontknijp, no one’s butt is safe! Lena makes her name schenkschatje true, but is found most of the time at the other side of the bar. Kruiper is spamming the team too much, but luckily (actually very sad) the lustrum is over, so hopefully she will be a bit more quiet. Mieke is learning how to not do her “krabbetje” move at the net, but is also hitting glasses from heads of the opponents. Imme’s storybox is never getting empty, so silence is not a thing in our team. Caya is still our quiet cannon and keeps impressing us. Rosa keeps also scaring the opponent with her spiking. Unfortunately, Benja is injured at the moment and cannot join us in matches or trainings. We hope that she gets better soon, so she can join us full time again! Silke and Meike, our only training team members, can be recognised by their nice tanned skin in comparison to the rest of the team, because instead of studying they had time to sunbathe during the holidays. Last but not least, Pim our trainer showed us his angry and scary side, but we still love him and like his presence at a lot of (team)activities. We are looking forward to our Sinterklaas team activity and of course to winning more matches!

Ladies 4:

Ladies 4 started the season fresh and fruity with a lot of newbies in the team and on the side of the field (shoutout to Guus & Mór!). Currently we are in the 9th place in the poule, but we played less matches and we are improving ourselves every time (stijgende lijnen) so a higher place is definitely our goal. Next to the trainings and matches we are also into team activities like a movie night with the dress code ‘strak in je trainingspak’ and we like to show our amazing dance moves in the International Club! Now a little fun fact about our match yesterday against Invicta in the Vlinder: Senna was having a serve streak when suddenly the person from the score said we had a rotation error, which was totally untrue and unlogical according to us. Possibly she just had to thick fingers and made a misclick? Luckily we were still dominating the game and won the match! XOXO Ladies 4 ‘Ik dacht het wel… KARAMEL’

Ladies 5:

Dear WaHosi,

Nice that you read about the wonderful ladies 5! Since the beginning of the season a lot has changed. Some teammates went to the far abroad and some to ladies 4. We also welcomed some new players and we can now train twice a week. Despite all these changes, we are already quite settled and the construction can begin! In the competition.  As always, we struggle to the last points in the competition and that is certainly not without result! We are steady 6th in the rankings and we have no intention of staying here. We had the luck to play the first matches against the best teams in the poule. This means that from now on we will only get more points and beat the others. With the best tips of our lovely ladies 1 trainers ( both sober and drunk at gala) we learn every training a little and continue to grow, something all players strive for. With regard to social matters, the nicknames have been made up, the teams shirts have arrived and the team weekend is booked. So our bonding is definitely good.

Chiquita!

Ladies 6:

The rockets of ladies zas are still full of power as we knock everyone out of the competition with our winning streak of 7 matches. So far, we have only lost 5 points on our way to the top of the milky way and we have already played against all the top teams except the current number 3. Even a week of extreme partying at the extra-terrestrial WaHo gala, pool party and the indoor beach day can’t hold us back! As long as we have the power of Wilco and the wise words of Tito at our side, we are sure we can live up to our glorious nickname “let’s promote again and beat ladies 5 – ladies 6”. Boogedieboogedieboogedie: ROCKETPOWER!

Ladies 7:

One day, after a good night of drinking,

Ladies 7 was thinking;

We are still first in the competition,

Which at the start, was not our mission.

We were not very confidential,

And didn’t know we had the potential.

Until after one training, one of us noted:

‘Maybe we could be promoted?’.

With good trainings and core stability,

We are realizing this possibility.

We also have a lot of fun,

So luckily the season is not yet done.

We are still planning more nights out,

But we will keep winning, no doubt.

Hopefully we can keep this devotion,

And at the end of the season earn our promotion.

Xxxxxx Ladies 7 ‘POTENTIE’

Ladies 8:

So far, things are not going as good as we hoped. We have won exactly one match, but the courage has not yet sunken into our shoes (as we say in Dutch). We are now somewhere between the 5th and 6th place, which sounds good but we are only with 7 in the pool. Fortunately, this does not ruin the ambiance. We had our first team evening in which we played some games and drank some beers. Our next activity will probably be a cocktail night. Furthermore, I was very happy to see so many of my teammates joining the (amazing) lustrum activity. Our favorite activity was definitely gala, it was climaximaal!

Much love from the ardillas of ladies 8 <3

Ladies 9:

We started this year with many new players, new trainers/coaches, and a new system. At first, this change seemed like a lot and some of us had trouble adapting at first. However, after playing in the new system for a few matches and getting to know everybody, we are better than ever. With the first 5 setter EVER, this was an exciting month for the up and coming dames 9. After the longest, most tensive 1,5 hours of our lives, we lost the fifth set with 15-13 to our great disappointment. However, it did not stop us from celebrating an amazing match and training for all the matches to come. At the moment, we are second last in the ranks but We. Will. Rise.

Match report Gents 1 September 20th

Final score: Waho Gents 1 – Tivoc (0-4)

We don’t really remember a lot about Saturday, but still we have to write a match report. Not sure we even played a match but okay. We do have really nice new warm up shirts, this year we are going for gold, and with a touch of purple in honour of the lustrum. In the evening we had an amazing BBQ with a lot of food and drinks and jokes. We ate our bellies full and drank all night long. Maybe that’s why we don’t remember about the rest of the day. There also was a techno house party near the Rhine, where we went with almost the entire team. It was a long and fun night, which ended with everyone in some kind of intoxicated state and with people sleeping in their car. We had fun.

MATCH REPORT GENTS 2 APRIL 6TH

Final score: Setash HS 2 – WaHo HS 2 (1-3)

Saturday the 6th of April was the day of days: the day everyone returned from their original weekend plans to travel with Wilco to the not-so-picturesque Huissen. With much confidence we stepped into the hall, which immediately blew us away with its low ceiling and high temperature. During the warming-up, the roof was hit on several occasions. However, this was not a bad thing, as we all had a correctly calibrated pass during the match itself. We started off in very good spirits, with much cheering, singing and shouting. The opponents were quite impressed and had no definitive answer to our play, and thus the first set was ours. The second set was a discrepancy compared to the rest of the match, as this set was accidentally given away to Setash. We still do not know what happened there. After that, the time for giving away presents was definitely over. We started the third set not bad, although the scores were kept quite even until Bram took up the ball for a service and only gave up this position after a series of twelve serves. Needless to say (but still worth mentioning) that we won this set as well and started the fourth and final one with plenty of confidence. So much so, that the opponents were too intimidated by Arjen’s imitation of a howler monkey and started whining about it at the referee. She was not very impressed though, and we were allowed to finish this set without having to alter our behaviour radically. Before we knew, it was time for the golden post-match combination: Spring bucks and stroopwaffles. Gotta love it.

MATCH REPORT LADIES 7 APRIL 2ND

Final score: Xanthos DS 2 – WaHo DS 7 (1-3)

Because we didn’t want to talk about our last match, we are going to talk about our match in Zetten on the second of April. (Technically we also forgot but no one will know). With some of the girls of the team and Bram we conquered the storm when we were biking to Zetten. We endured rain, wind and thunder so you can imagine how badly we wanted to win. Once arrived, we saw that gents 4 was playing next to us. A lot of screaming helped us both because we both won our first set. The second set was terrible, so we are not going to talk about this one either (Yes we are in a lot of denial). Sadly for us, the referee was biased. That’s why we also lost a lot of points (Also coming up with excuses now). At the end we did win the match with 3-1. Because Gents 4 was still in a really exciting game we turned around and supported them with all our power. We didn’t have a good influence though because they lost their last set. However, they also won the match with 3-1! Their first win this season. That does deserve a little applause!

MATCH REPORT LADIES 9 MARCH 23RD

Final score: Scylla DS 5 – WaHo DS 9 (2-3)

Last Saturday, Ladies 9 played an exciting match against Scylla in Wageningen. Even though this was one of the games with potential of winning there was a low attendance of Ladies 9 with only 7 players. But luckily one of the players (Leonie) is a multitasker/multipurpose and was able to play the position of setter and outside hitter.

During the first set Ladies 9 still needed to get adjusted to the awkward silence of this sports hall. The lack of a cheering audience was distracting and caused a low energy in the team. This resulted in a chaotic play and a loss of 20-25.

The second set Ladies 9 regained a little bit of their focus. They still managed to keep the game exciting and won with a minimum effort of 2 points (23-25).

The third set Ladies 9 became unreasonably confident due to their previous victory. This attitude resulted in a messy play and the focus and team spirit were very far to find. Resulting in a disappointing loss of 13-25.

Between the third and fourth set Ladies 9 decided it would be embarrassing to inform their other teammates with scores like the 3rd set. During the 4th set Ladies 9 decided to just have fun and play. The positive team spirit returned and some impressive moves were made. Still Ladies 9 managed to keep the game exciting and won with the bare minimum of 23-25.

Before the 5th set could start there was a confusing discussion about on which side of the field Ladies 9 should start. Scylla managed to score one point via the antenna on which Ladies 9 did not agree at all. But Ladies 9 didn’t let themselves get distracted and still managed to win the 5th set with 13-15. Very relieved that they could take the victory home.

MATCH REPORT GENTS 4 MARCH 15TH

Final score: WaHo HS 4 – AETOS HS 11 (1-3)

This week it is finally that time of the year again that the posterboys of Waho are allowed to brighten up your day with another beauty of a match report. Take a comfortable seat and a nice drink and read about the wonderful adventures of Gents 4(-0) (or Gents (0-)4, depending if it is a home or away match).

Last Friday it was time again for a spectacle of skill, determination and tactical prowess* as we had to square off against the number 4 team (what a lovely place in the standings) AETOS HS11. Unlucky there was a miscommunication with whomever allocates the fields because to our dismay (and that of our cheerleaders) we were put on one of the back fields. To add injury to insult our beloved trainer and coach Gijs? Was not able to attend the match and lend us his tactical knowledge and charming looks. With some improvising we were able to get our cripples ‘broken finger’ Gijs? and ‘busted knee’ Gijs? to be our moral coaches (actually just glorified cheerleaders) of that evening.

Luckily we like a challenge and started the match with our spirits high. With the tactical prowess of our coaches (of whom one didn’t even know the current system and positions of the players due to him betraying the team for half a year to dick around in Austria) we started the match with a bang. Blink and it was over, and unfortunately we underestimated our opponents, that is what you get when Gijs?, Gijs? and Gijs? are always so cocky and Gijs! can’t properly serve so we lost the first two sets with a score we won’t talk about because you want to get happy while reading this. Well of course we just like to play with our food, so after this general repetition we started the actual match with renewed energy, mainly because our coach Gijs? just screams so much. Realising they needed to change something our coaches Gijs? and Gijs? made some drastic measures and started the third set with Gijs!, Gijs?, Gijs!, Gijs!, Gijs? and Gijs? in the field and benching Gijs? and Gijs?. With this bold move Gents4 started the 3rd set by completely rolling over AETOS, forcing two quick timeouts out of them. Enjoying a challenge we gave them some free points because who likes a stomp, and after a while it was 20-20, or a similar score. The old Gents4 would succumb to the dreaded 20 point panic and throw away the set but with their two bold new coaches guiding** the team we overcame our past weaknesses and won the set 25-23!! That is something you didn’t expect while reading a match report of Gents4 (you can admit it, we can take it).

I think afterwards we forgot to play the 4th set.

VIEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRR BIEEEEEEEEEEEEEERRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gents (0-)4

*Not specifying which team

**Cheering, screaming and just being obnoxiously loud

MATCH REPORT GENTS 3 MARCH 8TH

Final score: WaHo HS 3 – BSVO HS 1 (2-3)

Last Friday, Gents 3 had to play against BSVO from Otterlo. Everyone who has ever been in their ‘sports’ hall, knows how extremely low their ceiling is. No wonder we lost 4-0 when playing the away match. However, this Friday we played in the Bongerd, where the ceiling is of normal height. Without our ‘normal’ coaches, but with a Libero (who only played a few points) who also coached this match, we started with a lot of energy. This resulted in a very good set, where we played better than ever. At a certain point it was 24-16, and we made it a little bit more exiting by letting BSVO score 4 points in a row. However, we won the set with 25-20.

The second set we started a bit confused because we won the first set. BSVO started playing and we came behind quite some points. However, with some amazing balls from Sander and Mart on middle, we came back. Unfortunately, we lost the set with 24-26, we were so close… The next set we did the opposite. Started of pretty good, but let it slip towards the end. Luckily for us, the standings were now inverted, and we won the set with 26-24!

If you know some history of Gents 3, you know where this match is going to. This season we already played four 5th setters. And we lost them all… The fourth set of this match was a good one, however BSVO played really well. We lost the set with 18-25.

The fifth set we started so bad. At a certain point we were 2-8 behind. However, due to our amazing team spirit this match, we came back. We even created a few match points! But when the glasses of some random BSVO guy broke, they decided it was a good moment to stall and to just take 5 minutes to solve the problem. Our concentration levels declined, and with a really stupid ball, BSVO won the 5th set with 16-18.

We fought really hard this match, showed amazing team spirit and showed the whole competition that we can play volleyball indeed. However, winning just seems too much to ask this season. We do get value for our money since we play so many 5th setters or long matches :D.

Sjalalalalalalalalala, WaHo heren drie, heren drie! WaaHoo heren drrieee!!

MATCH REPORT LADIES 5 MARCH 2ND

Final score: Set Up ’69 DS 5 – WaHo DS 5 (3-1)

After the drunk-volleyball at nachttoernooi previous weekend, we were ready to play some serious volleyball again. We travelled to Scherpenzeel to play against Set up ’69. Both teams being in the middle of the Nevobo rankings, it promised to be an exciting match. Apparently, they were extremely impressed by our strength and length already, as we needed to get dressed in the men rooms.

In the first set of the match, the OCD got the better of us, while the lines were red instead of white/yellow. The second set went way better and after killer blocking the strongest player of Set up ’69 we won! However, in third set the old ladies regained their powers and after some long rallies they won.

The last set started exciting, as we went head to head. Unfortunately, our heads were also busy with carnival coming up and we lost the fourth set. We fought like lions and ate grapes like crazy (in the hope they turned into wine) but it was not enough and we lost eventually with 3-1.

MATCH REPORT LADIES 3 FEBRUARY 22ND

Final score: Renswouw DS 3 – WaHo DS 3 (1-3)

Who the fuck is Maarten?

It was february the 21st, ladies 3 was having a nice looooong dinner. Normally we have to rush to the Bongerd early, so we enjoyed our burgers and potato wedges. In the new sports hall of Renswou, aka only a new sandpaper floor, we were excited to start to play immediately. To our huge disappointment, the match before ours was taking forever. After 45 minutes we could finally start our warming up and get back into the volleyball playing mood.
For the whole match we had huge ups and downs, so it was very thrilling, especially for Pim. He was probably dying inside.
We started the first set very strong. There was a lot of variation in our attacks. Then suddenly, our focus was gone and so was our head start. Eventually, we fought hard enough to win the set with 26-24.

Second and third sets had the same ups and downs, but we still prevailed and won both sets with the infamous 2 point difference, 28-26 and 27-25. Silke stole the show in the third set with a beautiful ‘baksteenbal’.

The fourth set was also very thrilling, except we did not win. One of the opponents had really strong service and that is why we had so much difficulty with the set. After a long and difficult fight we lost with 23-25.

At 23:46 the match was finally finished, which meant that Silke’s birthday was in 14 minutes!!!!1!!! So with a bit of poor timing while showering, we sang (semi) naked to her! After we finished showering, we enjoyed Silke’s homemade brownies.

During the match, the father of Joy wanted to leave, but he got some lottery tickets. After finally getting her attention, he dropped the lottery tickets of. Now, they were forced to stay to see if they won anything.

The prizes varied from a farmer’s basket with two eggs and local honey to a fitness membership to a shirt of Maarten. We did not have a clue who the hell Maarten is, neither did the people next to us. Sadly, we lost the gym membership in Renswoude to the biggest woman in the room. To our disappointment, we didn’t win anything and had to home empty handed.

Do you know who Maarten is?

Kisses,
Ladies 3

MATCH REPORT GENTS 1 FEBRUARY 15TH

Final score: WaHo HS 1 – Pegasus HS 5 (2-3)

Dear WaHosi,

Everything was going well. Some of us had a nice dinner together with some beautiful ladies of Ladies 8. We had a good feeling, having won the first match against these bastards, and we started the match off pretty well. The first set was way too easy, and we won 25-10. The second set started quite good as well, but then… Out of nowhere a majestic creature so big, so thicc, so full-bodied, so solid, so plump, so corpulent, so blubbery, so humongous, appeared on the field. All the guys were astonished by the presence of this fine creature. When the whale was halfway over, all we could think was we want Mór flopping. When the whale finally flopped off the field, our minds were completely gone. Luckily, we still won this set. But after this, everything went apeshit. The rest of the match is not to be discussed. I (someone from gents 1) really wanted to hurt the opponents, but I was the bigger person. Not as big as the whale tho. Life sucks, the match sucked. I hope the crowd enjoyed themselves, but we didn’t really hear anything from up there. <3 But with a few beers goggles on they might have enjoyed themselves as well.

Porco dio, heel diep, save the whales, joe,
Gents 1
